 Summer Teacher/Naturalists 

The Norman Bird Sanctuary is seeking several summer Lead Teacher/Naturalist and Co-Teacher/Naturalists for our summer camp program. Teacher/Naturalists lead groups lead groups of 12-16 campers in grades Pre-K through 12,  plan and teach a variety of hands-on nature based camp activities; oversee camper health and safety; communicate effectively with staff and parents; and supervise high school Assistant Naturalists in Training. Contract Runs June 17th- August 16th, including 1 week of staff training. Schedule varies depending upon camp program. See below for details.
Fledglings Camp: Campers Ages 3.5-5 years; Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Chickadees Camp: Campers Ages 4-6 years; Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Nature Day Camp: Campers Grades K-4: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Coastal Camp: Campers in Grades 2-8; Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Explorers: Campers in Grades 4-6; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00 a.m – 4:00 p,m.; Wednesday 2:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old; have a bachelor’s degree or coursework towards a college degree; have knowledge or a strong interest in the natural sciences; have experience working with children in a responsible and professional setting; and demonstrate strong communication skills. All staff members must pass national and state background checks. 
 
Lead Teachers are generally college graduates with significant teaching or environmental experience; Co-teachers must be high school graduates or college students with a passion for teaching others about the natural world.

ANTs (Assitant Naturalist in Training)

Do you know a teen that would like to volunteer at camp?

The Norman Bird Sanctuary (NBS) will soon be accepting applications for our Assistant Naturalist in Training (ANT) Program. Teens accepted into NBS’ ANT program are high school students who love spending time outdoors and want to gain experience working with children. ANTs assist Teacher/Naturalist serve as support staff for Teacher/Naturalist by reinforcing rules, themes and concepts and assist with daily camp chores such as helping to gather supplies, classroom clean-up and activity set-up. All ANT positions are unpaid; however, community service hours can be earned during each 3 week volunteer position.There will be a $25 materials fee for all participating ANTs.  This will help NBS to offset the costs of training materials, food, t-shirts, and other fees.

If you or your child are interested in becoming an ANT, consider attending our ANT Open House on Thursday, February 28th from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Preference will be given to ANTs who attend the Open House.
