Session Descriptions:
Session 1: Sea Stars: Dive into this fun filled week as we learn all about coastal critters. We will meet animals, play games, go for hikes and read stories. Note: As with all Nature Day Camps, this program is based up at NBS’ main campus not the Third Beach Education Center.
Session 2: Animal Extremes: Ever wonder which animals can fly the farthest, swim the deepest or run the fastest? This week we’ll answer those questions, as we take a closer look at our animal super stars!
Session 3: Native Ways: Take a trip back in time, as we explore the world of the Wampanoag, the Native Americans that lived right here on Aquidneck Island. We will play traditional Native American games, hear stories, and learn about their homes, gardens and way of life.
Session 4: Jaws and Claws: This week is all about nature’s predators. Through games, crafts and songs we will all learn all about predators adaptations and how prey are able to avoid them. We may even meet an animal or two.
Session 5: Nature Detectives Put your thinking caps on! This week we will solve “mysteries” using clues from the great outdoors. We will learn all about animal tracks and signs, bird calls, animal communication and camouflage.
Session 6: Puddles, Ponds and More: Put your boots on! This week will explore the wet world of rivers, lakes, ponds and even vernal pools. Crafts, games, songs, hikes and nature exploration will all be part of the fun.
Session 7: Life Underground: What goes on in the world underneath our feet? To answer this question, we’ll flip over logs, dig in the dirt and meet some of nature’s recyclers.
Session 8: Animals Undercover: This camp is all about feathers, fur, scales and skin. Each day, we will learn about the unique characteristics of animal groups and how many animals can blend in with their surrounding! Crafts, games, songs and live animal encounters will all be part of this action packed week.
Nature Day: $215 for Sessions 1, 3-8; $175 for Session 2
