Join Norman Bird Sanctuary for the first ever Rhode Island birding ecotour and 2-night weekend stay at the on-site historic Paradise Farmhouse! The smallest state is a hub for impressive winter birding, with 235 species having been recorded here between December and February alone. Habitats range from rocky and sandy shorelines to upland shrublands and forests. NBS naturalists will guide your group through some of the best birding hotspots across the state. Relax in the peaceful and well-appointed Paradise Farmhouse, and leave the bird scouting and driving to us. A Rhode Island birding ecotour weekend with the Norman Bird Sanctuary will not disappoint!
Guests will arrive to Paradise Farmhouse on Friday night and be treated to a delicious dinner, enjoying social time later with complimentary snacks and your own drinks. Check-in is at 3:00 p.m.
Wake up refreshed on Saturday morning, and dig into a hearty breakfast before grabbing your bagged lunch and settling into a spot in Norman Bird Sanctuary’s ecotour van. Experienced guides will take you on a day-long excursion designed to hit the Ocean State’s best birding spots. Explore Newport and dine on your own Saturday evening.
Round out your weekend stay by enjoying a complimentary breakfast and hitting the trails early for a guided hike on Norman Bird Sanctuary’s trails. Learn about the history of this inspiring land while birding the diverse habitats within this 325-acre sanctuary. Check-out is at 11:00 a.m.

More about the Paradise Farmhouse:
Our newly renovated 18th-century Paradise Farmhouse combines comfort and functionality with a spectacular location. The Farmhouse offers a unique location for nature retreats located on the 325-acre Norman Bird Sanctuary, boasting 7 miles of hiking trails, gardens, and rolling fields. The property is nestled between gorgeous beaches, local vineyards, and farm stands, and is just a 5-minute scenic drive to historic Newport and all of its famous attractions.
The Farmhouse is on the National Register of Historic Places. This 6,000 square foot structure has six bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms (2 rooms with full size beds, 1 bunk room for 6, and 3 rooms with king beds). All the bedrooms have their own full bathroom. The Farmhouse is nicely appointed and provides overnight accommodations with a well-equipped kitchen, 2 dining areas, 7 decorative fireplaces, 3 common/living rooms and a furnished patio, for a maximum of 16 overnight guests. The house also includes central heat/AC, all bed linens and bathroom towels, and green cleaning supplies.
This program is recommended for adult audiences. Participants will hike several miles over the course of two days, traversing mostly even terrain at a slow pace with opportunities for rest. If any Act of God or other event(s) beyond NBS’s control ("Force Majeure") causes the cancellation or interruption of the event, or, NBS chooses to cancel the event due to low enrollment or any other reason, NBS will refund the Guest the full amount paid to NBS not including travel expenses. NBS encourages all guests to purchase travel insurance to compensate for any potential loss of travel expenses to NBS.
If cancellation originates from Guest, NBS will or will not refund the amount paid according to this schedule: 100% refund if cancellation is 60 days or more from arrival date; 50% if cancellation is between 30-60 days of arrival date, and 0% if within 30 days of arrival date.
NBS and its agents and employees do not accept liability for loss of property damage or personal injury arising from the use of the facilities. We recommend you purchase your own liability insurance for the planned stay or event.
